Mayor's MessageThe Third Precinct will be hosting a community meeting for all residents and local officials which they serve. The meeting will be held on Monday, October 20, 2003 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the New Hyde Park Fire Department headquarters which is located at 1555 Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park. The evening's agenda will include an overview of the Third Precinct including a description of existing patrol posts, as well as discussion on recent crime patterns, quality of life issues and traffic enforcement. There will also be a shopper awareness presentation by the P.O.P. unit. All residents and business owners of the village, as well as the communities covered by the Third Precinct, are invited to attend.
I would like to give a special thank you to Emil Pape, a lieutenant in our Fire Department, and the other firematic officers, for securing a FEMA grant in the amount of $58,000 for the purchase of life safety equipment for the fire department. This grant was secured with the assistance of our Congresswoman, Carolyn McCarthy. Our neighboring villages were not as successful as Bellerose was in the amount of their grants. The village is lucky to have, and be supported by, such advocates.
Leaf season is here. Regular leaf pickup should begin the week of October 20. Please remember that if you have a gardener, then your gardener is responsible for the leaf removal from your property.
We are once again honored to have the Floral Park Memorial High School Band include Bellerose Village on their fund raising tour. They are scheduled to be at the Village Hall on Saturday, October 25 at approximately 10:45 a.m. to perform a few songs for about 15 minutes. Please try to make time in your schedule on that Saturday morning to show your support for these young men and women.
The Board of Trustees is looking for volunteers to help them in administering the village. If you have the time or a special talent, please consider helping out. It will be greatly appreciated.
