Mayor's MessageOur drainage project is well underway. The contractors have been in and the plan is to replace several of the broken and decaying drain pipes and enlarging others to accommodate heavier water flow.
Our summer recreation program will continue this year. All details covering dates and times will be circulated in a separate flyer. Our recent "Concert Under the Stars" was a big success. Our new Recreation Commissioner, Noreen Myers, has been working hard planning these and other events for our enjoyment.
Many residents have expressed concern that traffic seems to be going too fast through the Village. We have spoken to our POP officer at the Third Precinct about this and have asked for more of a police presence in town. Also, the Board of Trustees approved the hiring, once again, of Frederick Clark Associates to do a survey of Massachusetts and Pennsylvania Boulevards. This company performs traffic surveys in municipalities in the New York area and they come highly recommended. The purpose of the survey is to determine if any additional STOP signs are needed throughout our village, especially on the boulevards mentioned above. The current estimated number of STOP signs in town is believed to be 32. The Board will consider, if necessary, hiring Clark to do a traffic survey of the entire village. We will keep in mind the cost this may incur and will make the best decision for the entire village.
Please remember to make sure during the summer season that all doors and windows are locked when you're not at home, or retire for the evening. The kids should make sure their bikes are locked in the garage at night. Also, please have your neighbors check for your mail and newspapers if you go away on vacation. Remember, we watch out for each other!
Will it ever stop raining? I guess we shouldn't complain -- after all, last year we were combating a water shortage. Besides, look at all we are saving on our water bills by not having to water our lawns and shrubs as much!
