Mayor's MessageThe ground hog tells us that there will be six more weeks of winter. Brrrrr! We have weathered the recent storms (no pun intended) and are prepared to continue to do so.
The winter weather can take its toll on health and property and the ability to take care of daily needs. Please check in on a neighbor or friend who may live alone or who may have special needs or may even be shut in because of the weather. A simple act of kindness can go a long way. Remember, good neighbors make a strong community.
In these times of heightened security, we all should take precautions. Please know that in the event of a local emergency, the village hall will be the central point for Bellerose Village.
The American Red Cross suggests several home related ideas in the event of an emergency such as creating an emergency communications plan by keeping family telephone lists current and to have an out of town contact person. Also, they recommend establishing a predetermined meeting place if you need to evacuate our area. Another suggestion is to have a disaster supply kit available which would include bottled water, prescription medicines, etc. You can get more information by visiting the American Red Cross website at www.redcross.org.
I have been asked by several residents and the Board of Trustees to run again for Mayor. I have agreed to do so for one more term. Although I enjoy being Mayor, it does require a lot of my personal time and so I think this might be the last time I run. I think local government is a great thing. It is the first line of communication when people have issues. It is much more personal than state or federal government because you're dealing with your neighbors.
The Village needs to have more of its residents involved in how it is governed. We are always looking for new talent. If you have a gift which you can share with your neighbors and friends please consider doing so through village government. Please remember that our government is made of mostly volunteers, so please join us. The village belongs to all of us.
As always, thank you for your cooperation.
